At Reset WSM, we embrace and understand that not all children and young people fit inside the ‘box’. They need different skills and learning experiences to enable them to succeed.
We have both worked in children’s services and seen first-hand how positive relationships and personalised learning can help children and young people who are struggling in mainstream settings. With these, they can reset and be successful.
We have a shared passion for supporting young people and providing them with opportunities for them to see how amazing they can be. This was what inspired us to start Reset WSM.
Through our experiences working with children and young people, we have learnt a number of strategies to support a variety of needs. These strategies include trauma informed practice, PACE techniques, TEAM teach strategies, Lego therapy, and many more.
I have worked with children and young people since the age of 17 and always knew that I wanted to make a difference to their lives. I am extremely passionate and motivated to ensure that they are provided with the tools that they need to enable them to achieve their goals.
I've always worked in the Youth Work industry in a variety of different settings such as youth clubs, residential, youth buses, detached youth work, children’s homes, youth offending service, youth charities and children's secure units. It's really important to me that children and young people are not judged and that they feel listened too and support by the adults around them.
I believe in building positive relationships, taking the time to understand and explore the behaviours of the child or young person to ensure their needs are met and understood.
From a young age, I knew that I wanted to work with children and young people to help them reach their full potential. This is why I trained to become a primary school teacher which I have enjoyed for the last 6 years.
In that time, I also became a SENCo and have loved promoting inclusion and ensuring that children with a variety of needs had the support and resources to be successful learners. Because of my experience as SENCo, I have a good understand of SEND and EHC plans. I also have a great understanding of the challenges young people face when they have complex needs that can be difficult to meet in a mainstream setting.
I also have a child who has special educational needs and a EHC plan which is one of reasons that the ideas of Reset WSM came about. I am passionate about children and young people finding a love of learning through interactive, fun and inspiring learning opportunities.
I believe that every child and young person can be successful when they have the correct opportunities and support. That support needs to embrace individuality and be built with mutual respect in an environment where they all feel safe.
